What are the Treatment Options for Cystic Fibrosis?
While there is currently no cure for Cystic Fibrosis, various treatments aim to manage symptoms and improve quality of life. These include:
Airway clearance techniques to help remove mucus from the lungs. Medications such as antibiotics to treat lung infections, bronchodilators to open airways, and mucolytics to thin mucus. Pancreatic enzyme supplements to aid digestion. CFTR modulators, a newer class of drugs that target specific mutations in the CFTR gene to improve its function. Potential future therapies such as gene therapy are being researched to correct the underlying genetic defect.
