What Treatments are Available for CFTR-Related Conditions?
While there is no cure for Cystic Fibrosis, various treatments aim to manage symptoms and improve quality of life. These include airway clearance techniques, inhaled medications, pancreatic enzyme supplements, and antibiotics. Additionally, CFTR modulators are a newer class of drugs that target the underlying protein defect caused by specific CFTR mutations. Examples include ivacaftor and lumacaftor, which improve the function of the defective CFTR protein.
